What is a Slipped Disc?
It occurs when the outer ring of your disc becomes torn or weak and allows the inner portion to slip out.
Your spinal column consists of a series of bones (vertebrae) stacked onto each other. Between your vertebrae, lie little pads called the intervertebral discs, made up of a tough outer ring and soft gel-like centre. These act as cushions, so that the bones do not make contact with each other as you go about your day moving around, walking, lifting, twisting and bending over. Weakness or injury, or even age, can cause the soft inner portion of the disc to protrude through the outer ring. This is known as a slipped, herniated, or prolapsed disc.
Causes of a Slipped Disc
